Process

  1. The first meeting can be in person, on Zoom, on the phone or by email. The goal of the initial contact is to allow you to tell me what you are looking for in a portrait. We will discuss the size, medium, number of subjects, and the background. Based on these factors, the price and timing will be talked about.

  2. I work from photographs, preferably digital, but high quality photo prints taken with a traditional camera, can work well. Send as many photos as you can of the subject and I will review them to choose one that I can work from. If you live in Central NJ or New York City I can come to your home and take photos.

  3. A good reference photo has these qualities:

    1. High resolution

    2. Relatively close up of the face

    3. The face is well lit, not washed out or in deep shadow

    4. Either ¾ or front view of the face

    5. Not from too far above or below

    6. The expression can be smiling or serious, just no grimacing!

  4. l will review the photos and show you which one has the qualities that will help me best convey the likeness and personality. A deposit will be due after the photo is chosen.

  5. A 30% non-refundable deposit will be due after the photo is chosen.

  6. The portrait is painted and and when it is done I email you a scan of it.

  7. We discuss any necessary revisions.

  8. After payment is received the finished portrait is shipped to you.
